Be as quiet as you possibly can. Tiptoe your way through Butterfly Valley in order not to disturb the gorgeous butterflies, called ‘petaloudes’ in Greek. The best season to visit this amazing place is during late May when literally thousands of Jersey Tiger (Panaxia Quadripunctaria) butterflies flock there, lured by the sweet scent of the island’s rare Liquidambar orientalis (Oriental Sweetgum trees). The verdant valley is strewn with plush vegetation and blooming gardens, constituting it a green oasis of tranquility including some waterfalls too!
Local insight tip:
Don’t leave the valley without visiting the onsite museum to be informed of all the various kinds of species frequenting the valley, as well as checking out the local area and its restaurants as well as the lovely beaches within close proximity.
