Lindos

An ancient city and citadel

One of the island’s most popular attractions outside the center of Rhodes town is Lindos. Located approximately halfway across the island, about an hour away south east bound from the center by car, it boasts an amazing ancient landmark, the Acropolis of Lindos. A captivating mesh between ancient and medieval charm, the Acropolis of Lindos stands 116 metres tall and visiting it is a definite must during your trip to Rhodes. Don’t miss witnessing the passing of the ages by observing the many sights at the citadel: the ancient theatre, the remnants of the Temple of Athena Lindia, the Byzantine church of Agios Ioannis. The village of Lindos, built on a slope with a maze of streets, offers charming dining and shopping options. The sandy beach below and the bay are absolutely breathtaking.

Local insight tip:

Once in Lindos, find time to make a short stop to visit the picturesque Saint Paul bay. It is a popular romantic spot which is favoured as a quaint wedding venue.
